Finney County covers a big piece of Southwest Kansas, and the listings on this page cover all of it: in-town homes in Garden City and Holcomb, newer construction on the edges of town, small-town houses in places like Pierceville, rural homes on acreage, farmland, and commercial property. If it is for sale in Finney County and on the MLS, you will find it here, updated daily.
Searching by county instead of by town is the easiest way to see your real options. Plenty of homes with a Garden City mailing address sit out in the county on rural roads, and a lot of buyers who start out looking in town end up liking what a few extra minutes of drive time gets them.
Most of Finney County is served by two public school districts: Garden City USD 457 and Holcomb USD 363. District lines do not always follow town limits, especially for rural properties, so always confirm which district serves a specific address with the district before you buy. Garden City Community College offers two-year degrees, technical programs, and community classes right in town.
Garden City Regional Airport, southeast of town on US 50/400, offers daily commercial flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth, which is a big deal for a region this size. US 50, US 83, and US 400 connect the county to Dodge City, Liberal, Scott City, and the rest of Southwest Kansas.
Finney County was organized in 1883 and named for David W. Finney, Lieutenant Governor of Kansas at the time. Garden City grew up as a cattle and railroad town, and early settlements like Holcomb, Kalvesta, and Pierceville followed as wheat farming and ranching took hold. Irrigation from the Arkansas River valley and the aquifer below still shapes the landscape and the local economy today. Finney County is also the second largest county in Kansas by area.
